Bah, Humbug! to Bah, Humbug!

So many people complain about Christmas.... I hear so much "Bah, Humbug!" about the holidays. You might as well get over it.... It comes every year without fail. You can't control the negatives, so just focus on what you like about it all. Just ignore the commercialism and make the holiday your own.
I did my annual holiday mall walk. I like the hustle and bustle, the decorations and the music (if it's not too early). I went to The Galleria, Valley View Mall, and NorthPark. NorthPark remains my favorite. The Santa and reindeer (all made from nuts!) have been there each holiday season as long as I can remember. NorthPark also has art throughout the mall all year.
Dallas has been so lucky to have someone like Ray Nasher to keep NorthPark so simple and classic and showcase his art collection in the mall. I'm glad that his family is keeping his legacy alive and protecting his vision. The new expansion doubling its size has sealed its reputation of the best shopping experience in Big D!

more graffiti

Am I wrong?
Is this okay?
Today we discovered that the neighbors across the street and down one house carved their dog's name in the newly poured sidewalk in front of our house.
Would you do that? I can understand that they thought it was cute since they saw our next-door neighbor write her name and her dog's name about two feet square in her new cement sidewalk. "Well, we'll just do it , too!" I guess it's cute if it's in front of your own house. I didn't even THINK of carving BooBoo's name in the sidewalk in front of our house. Hmmmmm. Maybe I should consider the neighbor's driveway....

Trash / Treasure

I had to buy a new desk chair - the old one had worn hardware under the seat which made it wobble and squeak. I put it out by the dumpster and it took three days for someone to take it. The "treasures" that we put out there are usually gone in one day. I think people watch our dumpster area for discarded frames!

Construction Fun

Yesterday when I was home babysitting the electricians, I noticed that the city was preparing the sidewalk area in front of the house to pour the cement to replace where they tore it out when they put in the new pipes in the street. The first time that they ripped out the curb and walk, they pulled up the sprinkler system lines. I had to get my plumber to cap off a broken pipe so that I could turn on the sprinklers without the water gushing. Then when they took out more concrete to make the area to fill in, they tore up the sprinkler pipes again.

When I turned on the sprinkler to show them what they had done, they were unaware. So, the neighbors got their sidewalks put in yesterday - mine is still a hole. I had the broken lines marked, but since they ripped them out twice, now I have no idea how the pipes run to the heads at the street. No telling how they will put it back together if I am at work when they show up to do the repair. I need to just stay at home to control all this stuff going on!

City Living

Our building got "tagged" again. It is easy to get on top of the building behind us and paint the back of ours - which faces Central Expressway. The last time that happened.... we painted over it with spray paint and they left it alone for a couple of years. I hesitate to paint over it completely since it just gives them a blank canvas to start over. So, if we can just obliterate it in a way not to look too bad, maybe they'll give it a rest.

I wish it could be slightly more artistic like this one I saw in Paris. He's kind of cute....
