Along came a spider....

This spider has been on the side of the house all this week. When I first discovered it, it was in the center of the web, but when I went outside to take it's picture, it saw me and moved up to the top of the web (the spot in front of the green tree). The web is so high up, you can walk under it, so the whole thing may stay put awhile. The big one last year was in front of the house, and I'm sure the postman ran into it - squarely in the face!

Tuesday on Monday

Yesterday Thomas and I went to Ft. Worth to do stuff. We went to a store that he was told about, The Old Home Supply House which was FULL of old house hardware and fixtures. Any little knob pull, hinge, or decorative nail that was ever pulled out of an old house is there. Want an aqua bathroom sink from the 40's? They have it. And their prices are so reasonable! Visit their website for a few pix. Across the street was a warehouse/store packed with old windows, doors, pieces of tin, just anything.

Later, we went to the Montgomery Street Antique Mall and looked at all the stuff. I mostly felt glad that I could leave it all in there and that I have escaped the collecting mania for the most part!

Today we discovered that the neighbors across the street and down one house carved their dog's name in the newly poured sidewalk in front of our house.
Would you do that? I can understand that they thought it was cute since they saw our next-door neighbor write her name and her dog's name about two feet square in her new cement sidewalk. "Well, we'll just do it , too!" I guess it's cute if it's in front of your own house. I didn't even THINK of carving BooBoo's name in the sidewalk in front of our house. Hmmmmm. Maybe I should consider the neighbor's driveway....

Construction Fun

Yesterday when I was home babysitting the electricians, I noticed that the city was preparing the sidewalk area in front of the house to pour the cement to replace where they tore it out when they put in the new pipes in the street. The first time that they ripped out the curb and walk, they pulled up the sprinkler system lines. I had to get my plumber to cap off a broken pipe so that I could turn on the sprinklers without the water gushing. Then when they took out more concrete to make the area to fill in, they tore up the sprinkler pipes again.

When I turned on the sprinkler to show them what they had done, they were unaware. So, the neighbors got their sidewalks put in yesterday - mine is still a hole. I had the broken lines marked, but since they ripped them out twice, now I have no idea how the pipes run to the heads at the street. No telling how they will put it back together if I am at work when they show up to do the repair. I need to just stay at home to control all this stuff going on!

This Old House - part 2

I had such a frustrating day today! The electrician was here to run the conduit underground.... It wasn't as easy as he thought! They were here all day and still didn't get finished. Due to all the solid tree roots every where, they couldn't go under the cement areas and had to break out the cement sidewalk at the garage and by the back door. They needed a saw to cut the larger section of cement, but the only rental one that Home Depot had didn't work. So, they'll have to come back. Half of the plants in the bed were ripped out, and the brick border by the door had to be removed. It turned into a big ordeal, and I'm sure expensive as well!
